official definition

linkedin is a social media to facilitate professional networking and employment. owned by microsoft, linkedin encourages users to post career-defining achievements and refine their personal profile that acts as a detailed resume. early days included selling access to job recruiters. outside of hiring, companies will promote events, groups, articles, and individual content.

"pokemon go for people"

i'll say it. linkedin is terrifying and definitely the worst social media for my mental health! and lots of my friends agree; my tweet, "MAKE LINKEDIN CASUAL!!" got like 10 likes. i made my account in my sophomore year of college during the year of zoom classes. i would reference other people's profiles to see what mine should look like, but then i found out that they can see that you looked at them. i closed the window and didn't go back for another month. you also have to collect connections in order to be taken seriously. and when you're 19 and never worked a job before in your life, it's humbling adding people from high school who are a lot more adjusted to the workforce than you are.

in review

linkedin is a good tool. their job boards are not the best since literally everyone uses it, so job postings are oversaturated with 500+ applicants after one day. maybe when i'm a good career woman (or have found some self-confidence) i will enjoy linkedin. it's kinda fun to use professional jargon with my friends. while on instagram, i'll comment something like, "major slay", on linkedin, i'll comment, "congratulations! i am so excited to see where this new opportunity takes you".

i'm still terrified to go on the app or the website, so there's honestly not much i can say.

their food is good

one of my best friend's dad works at linkedin, and in high school, we would get dinner together in the linkedin cafeteria. their food and coffee was really good (and free) and they have lots of little rooms for us to use. shoutout big tech! you have perks, that's for sure.
